Cancer Patient Support Fund by BRAC India

Organized by BRAC Mumbai, Maharashtra 86 views 08 Oct 2026
Cancer treatment can place a heavy financial burden on low-income families. BRAC aims to support verified cancer patients with essential treatment-related expenses such as medicines, diagnostic tests, hospital costs, travel, nutrition and other approved needs.

A cancer diagnosis changes life in a moment.

For the patient, there is fear about treatment and recovery.

For the family, another worry often begins immediately:

How will we afford all of this?

Cancer treatment may involve repeated hospital visits, diagnostic tests, medicines, surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, travel and months of follow-up care.

Even when treatment is available at a government or charitable hospital, families may still face many expenses outside the main treatment itself.

A patient may need medicines that are not available at the hospital.

A family may have to travel repeatedly from another district.

The person who normally earns for the household may have to stop working during treatment.

There may be costs for food, temporary accommodation, diagnostic tests and transportation.

For a family already living on a limited income, these expenses can become overwhelming.

BRAC is creating the Cancer Patient Support Fund to help verified low-income cancer patients and their families meet essential treatment-related expenses.

The purpose of this campaign is not to promise that BRAC can pay for every part of a patient's treatment.

It is to provide practical financial support where it can make a real difference.

Depending on the patient's verified need and available funds, support may be provided toward:
- prescribed medicines
- diagnostic tests
- hospital or treatment-related charges
- chemotherapy or radiation-related expenses where approved
- travel to and from the hospital
- temporary accommodation during treatment
- nutritional support
- other essential treatment-related needs approved by BRAC after verification

Every request for support will be reviewed before assistance is provided.

Where possible, BRAC will prefer making payments directly to hospitals, diagnostic centres, pharmacies or approved service providers rather than handing over unrestricted cash.

Documents such as medical reports, treatment estimates, prescriptions, hospital records and proof of financial need may be requested as part of the verification process.

The amount provided to each patient may differ depending on the medical need, urgency, available documents and funds available in the campaign.

BRAC will maintain records of assistance provided through this fund.

Donors will receive campaign updates showing how the fund is being used, while the privacy and dignity of patients will be protected.

Where patients give permission, BRAC may also share their recovery journey or treatment-support story so donors can understand the real impact of their contribution.

No family should have to face cancer alone simply because their income is limited.

Sometimes a contribution toward one medicine, one diagnostic test or one hospital visit can help a patient continue treatment without another financial setback.

Your donation can help a cancer patient focus on treatment instead of worrying about the next medical expense.

How This Fund Works
Donations received through the BRAC Cancer Patient Support Fund will remain available for eligible cancer patients who apply for assistance through BRAC’s grant system. Each application will be reviewed and verified according to BRAC’s eligibility and documentation requirements. Approved support may be used for medicines, diagnostic tests, hospital treatment, chemotherapy or radiation-related costs, travel, temporary accommodation, nutritional support or other approved treatment-related needs. Wherever practical, BRAC may make payment directly to hospitals, pharmacies, diagnostic centres or other verified service providers.

Support the BRAC Cancer Patient Support Fund and help us stand beside families during one of the most difficult periods of their lives.
