Emergency Medical Assistance Fund by BRAC

A medical emergency can happen without warning and leave a family struggling to arrange money for hospital treatment, medicines, tests or urgent procedures. BRAC India aims to support verified low-income patients facing serious medical emergencies when timely financial help can make a real difference.

A medical emergency rarely gives a family time to prepare.

One phone call can suddenly mean an ambulance, hospital admission, urgent tests, medicines and treatment that cannot wait.

A family that was managing its daily expenses yesterday may find itself facing a hospital bill today that it simply cannot afford.

For low-income families, the situation can become overwhelming very quickly.

They may borrow money from relatives.

They may sell something valuable.

They may delay a test or medicine while trying to arrange funds.

Sometimes the person who has fallen sick is also the main earning member of the family, making the financial pressure even greater.

The problem is not always the full cost of treatment.

Sometimes a family needs help with one urgent diagnostic test.

Sometimes it is an expensive medicine that must be purchased immediately.

Sometimes it is an emergency procedure, ambulance transfer or hospital deposit that the family cannot arrange in time.

BRAC India is creating the Emergency Medical Assistance Fund to support verified patients and families facing serious and unexpected medical emergencies.

This fund is meant for situations where medical care is urgent and the patient or family is unable to meet essential treatment-related expenses.

Depending on the verified need and available funds, assistance may be provided toward:

- emergency hospital treatment
- prescribed medicines
- urgent diagnostic tests
- emergency procedures or surgery-related expenses
- ICU or critical-care related expenses where approved
- ambulance or patient transportation
- blood or other approved medical requirements
- temporary accommodation where treatment requires travel
- other essential emergency medical expenses approved by BRAC India

Every application will be reviewed and verified before assistance is approved.

BRAC India may request medical reports, doctor recommendations, hospital estimates, prescriptions, bills and other supporting documents.

Where practical, BRAC India will prefer making payments directly to hospitals, pharmacies, diagnostic centres, ambulance providers or other verified service providers.

The amount of assistance may differ from case to case depending on the urgency, financial condition of the family, medical requirement, available documents and funds available in the campaign.

This fund is not intended to replace government healthcare schemes, insurance or other support available to the patient.

Where appropriate, BRAC India may also guide families toward other available assistance so that campaign funds can be used where they are needed most.

Medical emergencies are frightening enough.

A family should not also have to feel completely helpless because it cannot immediately arrange money.

Sometimes timely financial help can prevent a medical emergency from becoming a financial disaster for an entire family.

How This Fund Works
• Donations received through the Emergency Medical Assistance Fund by BRAC India will remain available for eligible patients who apply through BRAC India’s grant system.
• Each application will be reviewed and verified according to the fund’s eligibility and documentation requirements.
• Cases involving urgent medical need may receive priority depending on the seriousness of the situation and available funds.
• Approved assistance may be used for emergency treatment, medicines, urgent tests, hospital charges, procedures, ambulance services and other approved medical needs.
• Where practical, payments may be made directly to the hospital, pharmacy, diagnostic centre or other verified medical service provider.
