Street Animal Support Fund by BRAC India

Organized by BRAC Mumbai , Maharashtra 46 views 10 Oct 2026
Street animals often suffer from injuries, illness, hunger and lack of timely treatment. BRAC India aims to support verified cases of injured and sick street animals with veterinary care, medicines, rescue transport, recovery support and other essential animal welfare needs.

Street animals live around us every day.

We see them near homes, markets, railway stations, roads and public spaces.

Most people notice them only when something goes wrong.

A dog may be hit by a vehicle.

A puppy may fall sick and become too weak to move.

A cat may suffer from an untreated wound.

An animal may remain injured on the roadside because nobody knows whom to call or who will pay for treatment.

Sometimes people want to help but do not know where to begin.

Veterinary treatment may be available, but transport is not.

A rescuer may find the animal, but the cost of tests, medicines or hospital care may be more than one person can manage.

And while people are trying to arrange help, the animal continues to suffer.

BRAC India is creating the Street Animal Support Fund to provide practical assistance for verified street-animal welfare cases.

The purpose of this campaign is simple:

An injured or sick street animal should not be left without help only because treatment costs money.

Depending on the verified need and available funds, support may be provided toward:

- emergency veterinary treatment
- prescribed medicines
- diagnostic tests
- wound care
- surgery-related expenses where approved
- rescue transportation
- temporary recovery care
- post-treatment medicines
- vaccination or sterilisation where part of an approved welfare case
- food during recovery where necessary
- other essential animal welfare expenses approved by BRAC India

Every request for support will be reviewed before assistance is approved.

BRAC India may ask for photographs or videos of the animal, veterinary reports, prescriptions, treatment estimates, bills, location details and information about the rescuer, feeder or person reporting the case.

Where practical, BRAC India will prefer making payment directly to veterinary hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, animal ambulances, shelters or other verified service providers.

The amount of assistance may differ from one case to another depending on the seriousness of the animal’s condition, urgency of treatment, available documents and funds available in the campaign.

This fund is not meant to replace the work of animal rescuers, feeders or welfare organisations.

It is meant to support genuine cases where financial help can make treatment or recovery possible.

Sometimes the difference between suffering and recovery may be one veterinary visit.

Sometimes it may be an X-ray, medicine, surgery or transport to a clinic.

Street animals cannot explain their pain.

They depend on people to notice, care and act.

A life should not be left suffering on the roadside simply because nobody could afford the treatment.
