Provide Faster Relief to Farmers After Droughts and Floods

Petition To:

Parimal Singh
Secretary (Agriculture) • Agriculture Department, Government of Maharashtra
For a farmer, losing a crop can mean losing an entire season of income.

Months of work can disappear after a few days of extreme weather.

Too little rain can dry out fields before crops are ready.

Too much rain can destroy standing crops, damage soil and wash away seeds and fertiliser.

Floodwater can leave farmland unusable even after the water has gone.

When this happens, farmers still have expenses.

They may have borrowed money for seeds, fertiliser, equipment or labour.

Their families still need food, school fees, medicines and daily household expenses.

The problem becomes even harder when help takes too long to arrive.

Farmers should not have to visit offices again and again just to find out whether their crop-loss report has been accepted.

They should not be left wondering for months whether relief will come at all.

We are asking the Government of Maharashtra and the concerned agriculture and district authorities to make the relief process faster and easier for farmers affected by droughts, floods and severe crop damage.

Crop-loss checks should be carried out quickly after a major weather event.

Farmers should be clearly told how to report damage, what information is needed and where they can check the status of their claim or relief request.

Once damage is verified, eligible relief payments should be released without unnecessary delay.

Where large areas are affected, local authorities should provide clear public updates so that farming families are not forced to depend on rumours or repeated visits to government offices.

Special attention should also be given to small and marginal farmers who may have very little savings to fall back on after losing a crop.

Support should not stop with immediate cash relief.

Farmers may also need help with seeds, input costs, soil recovery and preparation for the next crop season.

A farmer who has already lost one harvest should not be pushed into deeper debt simply because assistance arrived too late.

Extreme weather cannot always be prevented.

But unnecessary delay in helping affected families can be prevented.

When a crop is lost, timely support can help a farming family recover instead of falling further into financial hardship.

Please sign this petition and support faster, clearer and more reliable drought and flood relief for farmers across Maharashtra.
