Repair Dangerous Potholes Before They Cause Serious Accidents

Petition To:

Municipal Corporation
Commissioner • Municipal Corporation
Shri Milind Mhaiskar
Additional Chief Secretary • Public Works Department, Government of Maharashtra
A pothole may look like a small problem until someone meets it unexpectedly on a busy road.

For a motorcyclist, suddenly hitting a deep pothole can mean losing balance. For a driver, avoiding one at the last moment can mean swerving into another vehicle. For cyclists, pedestrians and elderly people, badly damaged roads can make an ordinary journey unnecessarily dangerous.

And during heavy rain, the problem becomes even harder to see. Water can cover a pothole completely, leaving motorists unaware of its depth until it is too late.

Citizens should not have to memorise dangerous stretches of road simply to travel safely through their own neighbourhoods.

Temporary patchwork that breaks apart after a short period is also not a lasting solution. We are asking municipal corporations and the concerned road authorities across Maharashtra to establish a more responsive system for identifying and repairing dangerous potholes.

Residents should have a simple way to report hazardous road conditions using a helpline, website, mobile service or other accessible complaint mechanism.

Every complaint should receive a reference number so that citizens can track whether action has been taken.

Potholes that create an immediate danger to road users should be prioritised for urgent attention.

Where a permanent repair cannot be completed immediately, the dangerous area should at least be clearly marked or secured until proper repairs can be carried out.

Authorities should also ensure that completed repairs meet reasonable quality standards so that the same pothole does not repeatedly return after rain or ordinary traffic.

Road maintenance should be preventive wherever possible. Waiting until a road becomes severely damaged makes travel more dangerous and can lead to repeated repairs that inconvenience everyone.

This petition is not asking for perfect roads overnight. It is asking for a system where dangerous road conditions are reported, acknowledged and repaired before somebody gets hurt.

Motorcyclists, motorists, cyclists, pedestrians, school buses, ambulances and public transport all use the same roads.

Safe roads are therefore not a convenience for a few people. They are a basic civic responsibility that affects everyone.

A pothole should be repaired before it becomes the reason someone's ordinary journey ends in an emergency.

Please sign this petition and support timely, accountable and durable pothole repairs across Maharashtra.
