Stop Open Garbage Dumping Near Residential Areas

People should not have to live beside mountains of garbage. Yet in many neighbourhoods, waste is still dumped openly near residential buildings, roadsides, vacant plots, markets and public spaces.

At first, it may look like only a cleanliness problem. But when garbage remains for days, it begins to affect the entire area.

The smell becomes unbearable. Stray animals tear open waste bags and spread rubbish across the road. Flies, mosquitoes and rodents gather around the dumping area. Plastic and other waste enter drains and contribute to waterlogging during heavy rain.

Children walk past these places on their way to school. Families living nearby are forced to keep windows closed and tolerate conditions that should never become normal.

Residents often complain, the garbage may be removed temporarily, and then the same dumping point appears again a few days later.

This cycle needs to stop. We are asking the concerned Municipal Corporation and local civic authorities to identify recurring open dumping locations and ensure regular waste collection from those areas.

Garbage should not be allowed to accumulate for long periods in open public spaces.

Where illegal dumping repeatedly occurs, authorities should place appropriate collection facilities, improve collection schedules, display clear instructions and take action against repeated dumping where necessary.

Residents should also have a simple way to report overflowing or illegal garbage points and receive timely action. Waste management cannot succeed only through occasional clean-up drives.

It requires a dependable system that prevents garbage from accumulating in the first place. Clean neighbourhoods are not a luxury. They are a basic part of public health, dignity and a safe living environment.
