Stop Sudden Evictions Without Proper Notice for Renters

Petition To:

Municipal Corporation
Commissioner • Municipal Corporation
Shri Aseem Kumar Gupta
Additional Chief Secretary (Housing) • Housing Department, Government of Maharashtra
A rented home may not belong to the tenant. But while a family is living there, it is still their home.

1. Children go to school from that address.

2. People travel to work from there.

3. Families keep their belongings, documents and daily lives there.

That is why being told to leave suddenly can create a serious crisis.

Some renters may be asked to vacate with very little warning.

Others may be pressured through repeated calls, threats to cut electricity or water, changing locks or demands to leave immediately.

In some cases, tenants may not know what notice they are entitled to or where they can go for help.

A dispute between a landlord and tenant should not turn into a situation where a family is pushed onto the street overnight.

We are asking the Government of Maharashtra and the concerned housing authorities to improve public awareness and enforcement of fair rental practices.

Tenants should receive clear written notice when they are being asked to leave, except where the law allows otherwise.

People should have enough time to make arrangements, respond to the notice and seek help if they believe they are being treated unfairly.

Basic services such as water and electricity should not be used as pressure tactics to force someone out.

Tenants should also have a simple way to find information about their rights and where to complain if they face harassment or sudden eviction.

At the same time, landlords also deserve a fair process when rent is not paid or property is being misused.

The answer is not to ignore either side.

The answer is to make sure disputes are handled through a clear and fair process instead of pressure and intimidation.

This petition is not asking that tenants be allowed to stay forever against the law.

It is asking that no family be pushed out of a home without proper notice and a fair process.

Housing is one of the most basic parts of a stable life.

Losing a home suddenly can affect work, education, health and the safety of an entire family.

Please sign this petition and support fair treatment and clear protection for renters across Maharashtra.
